I personally love the MIDI cuff and razorblade necklace. I heaaaaartttt. Ngargh. Someone buy for me PLEASE. (via popagadget)
My favourites are testiculating, aeroplane blonde, and beer compass. I think, however, that belle personfies the consequence of ‘breaking the seal’. And we’ve all felt that oh-no second, haven’t we! (Thanks atarashi for posting this.)
simply amazing.
I had a bit of leftover double cream in my fridge from last night when I made sausage-meatballs carbonara, and was trying to figure out what to do with it since I figured it wasn’t gonna keep that well till Friday night when I’m preparing the crème brulée for Saturday’s dinner party.
Anyhoo, so long story short I decided to warm it up with some milk and just add it into my noon cuppa coffee and now it seems there’s a layer of OIL floating above my coffee. I know double cream is what you make butter from but I didn’t realise it was going to be like this!
After much skimming, the coffee still tastes okay, but my heart is screaming everytime I look at the clear yellow globules glistening at me from the top of my coffee mug. Hrm.
Pantry Magic is now open at 43 Jalan Merah Saga and I popped in today for a bit to nose around. Picked up a few silicone brushes and a baking stone (WHEE!!!). I’m definitely going back - and you guys should check it out too! If any of you happen to spot me there, give us a holler. :)
Hmm. I have 2 hands which are now thinly coated in superglue, and I’m not quite sure how next to proceed. Scraping and plucking at the bits I could get off haven’t shown much results.
Suggestions, anyone?
Tonight’s (or, by now, last night’s) scaled down trial tasting menu went off with nary a hitch in sight, and I’m quite pleased with myself. In spite of the scalded palm and lack of gas, I even managed to get everything prepared - apart from the stuff that needed to be done on the spot at least - slightly over an hour ahead of schedule. :)
I also seem to be getting better at estimating portions, so if all goes well, none of you will go home needing your stomachs pumped next week when the full-fledged gastronomic mayhem ensues.
Anyway, I’ve posted a couple of pictures on flickr, including one of my impromptu volunteer taste-tester looking very happy halfway through her mini-burger (pictured right), and another one of my mixed berry pavlova (which you guys won’t be getting next week).
Next weekend, I hope to have better photos since I think Ashwin’s going to help me shoot (I’m assuming that I’m going to be more stressed since the number of portions I need to plate and serve will be twice as much as today, and there will be a couple more items on the menu which I couldn’t figure out how to scale down enough to include today) and since I shouldn’t be making the same presentation mistakes that may have occurred today.
Alrighty, the previous 24-hour-cooking-marathon has left me completely exhausted so I’m going to go crash.
Over and out.
I just made my first cafe latte. Double shot of espresso, steamed milk, and topped with foam. *does a jig.
I also burnt the palm of my right hand while trying to clean the milk-steamer-nozzle, so the pace of the cooking has slowed - and this, coupled with the running-out-of-gas incident last night, is causing me to wonder if I’ll get dinner on the table in time for tonight. Oh well! Time to go make my truffle sabayon.
I’ve changed my contact email address, and considering my domain name is the mangled pronunciation of the letter w, it’s amazing that I didn’t think to do this sooner.
But anyhoo, from now on, please contact me at:
The contact page has been updated too. And yes, I’m very proud of myself. :)
I’ve started preparing for tomorrow’s big dinner (this is a reduced version - and trial run of sorts - of the one to follow next week) and I just ran out of gas. Not of the gastrointestinal sort, but of the gas-which-gives-me-fire-in-the-stove sort.
MMRRRGGHHHHHH.
