Roasted Chicken Rice

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE! I’ve been working on the roasted version of Hainanese Chicken Rice for a couple of years now (in which I mean I tried it twice, and then got bored of failing/not-quite-succeeding and shelved it for a later date). But since it’s Singapore’s 49th birthday today, I figured I could share the current iteration of my recipe. Keep reading →

Blueberry Cheesecake

OOH BOY hello it’s been a while. /insert embarrassed emoji. How are we almost halfway done with 2014?! Tarting Up the Year of the Horse

Since moving to Hong Kong back in 2008, I’ve not been back to Singapore for Chinese New Year – my family isn’t terribly traditional, flights are ridiculously expensive around these peak periods, and I generally see my family enough that they don’t make a fuss if I miss occasions like these. However, that means that apart from the odd box of cookies that gets smuggled back into Hong Kong by whichever friend that has completely overdosed on binge eating back home and hence doesn’t want any for themselves, I haven’t really had too many of our traditional CNY snacks in the last 5 years. Yamazaki and Yuzu Glazed Carrots

Happy 2014! I know I’m hardly the first person to make this observation, but it always confounds me how the last quarter of the year flies by. It probably doesn’t help that the most significant birthdays in my life are bundled between end September and early November, and they’re quickly chased by Thanksgiving, Christmas and the turn of the year, all of which have become little traditions in the circle of my surrogate HK family of friends, and which make the most amazing and delicious excuses to go all out in the kitchen for.
