After a free night’s stay at Swissotel The Stamford, the bunny and I wandered over to Robinsons at Raffles City to do a spot of preemptive household shopping. We’re moving house in a few months, and I’ve been given a certain budget for kitchen apparati with which I can kit the kitchen out - we’re getting a much bigger one this time.
I went a bit crazy, and have already filled half the budget with KIV-ed miscellany. This, obviously, is worrying, since the kitchen department is a lot smaller compared to the Robinsons outlet in Centrepoint, and also I have yet to properly check out the kitchen gadgetry department at the new Tangs in Vivocity. I took a brief look a couple of weeks ago and I’m now about as scared of going back as Belle is of the fashion retail outlets in the new megamall. :)
Speaking of which, come Friday we’ll be undertaking the rather pointless mission of supervising each others’ spending in Vivo - she in the billions of shops, and me at the kitchen department. I forsee a lot of ooh-ing and aah-ing, as much spending, and very little supervision.
Anyhoo, the only things we picked up (literally) today were a pair of these dinky bodum espresso glasses, and an espresso maker for one. (I say literally because I don’t think mattresses that need to be delivered at a later date really count.)
You place cold water in the tank at the bottom, you pack coffee powder into a filter above it and place the whole thing above a heatsource, which forces the steam to go up (and get infused with) the coffee powder, through the tap, and into your glass. The entire contraption is about the length of the long + short side of a cigarette pack added together (I own not a ruler - but I’ll guesstimate 10-15cm?), and I’m particularly taken with it. :)
Maybe.. maybe not.
Probably definitely.
I wonder if I can pull off a degustation menu.
I wonder, also, and perhaps more importantly, will I have enough cutlery and crockery for it?
Edit: Oh my god I think I can do it.
I was trying to figure out what to write, and I decided I’d had enough of emo birthday posts. Plus I know you - you’re not really into the emo sort of scene anyway. :)
So here’s a quick one before I have to rush off for a 10am meeting in school. Happy birthday to my favouritest person in the whole wide world, to my best friend, my nana.
I still miss you loads, but this year.. instead of counting down the days till you get home, I’m counting down till the day when I take a train? bus? some mode of transport or other up to Rhode Island to visit you and then we’ll go mad. And we can have loads of fun laughing at whoever falls down more while we attempt to ski somewhere in New England. :) Your friends are going to find that they don’t know the meaning of mad till I’ve hit town. Hehe. Or maybe I will find out that I didn’t know the meaning of crazy till I meet all of them. Either way, I can’t wait.
Happy 20th nana! I love you. :) I simply can’t wait to see you at the end of the year.
And this takes it to the next level.
And so it begins, now that I’ve just gotten back my first roll that I shot with the Asahi Pentax ME that I restored recently. Can I just say that b/w film is freaking amazing, ‘cos I didn’t realise that I had to set the film speed, and actually ended up overexposing the entire roll by about 4 stops, yet they still turned out alright.
I’m too excited for words, and I’m definitely too excited to speak, so I’ll just provide you guys with a handy little link to my Film Set. Check them out. :)
Edit: So it turns out the film held the extra 4 stops of light because there’s something wrong with the metering. Half the second roll didn’t quite turn out, and it’s back to the camera hospital I go.
I just had the loveliest Tuesday - waking up late, cuddling before rolling out of bed, heading to town to do a spot of shopping (I got my Burberry scarf!), then delivering biaory’s early birthday present to her shop. Caught a movie, and had a deeeelish dinner at Ka Soh before heading out again for a nightcap at The Brasserie with biao and meow.
Hope your Hari Raya was equally pleasant :)
PS: It was recently brought to my attention that I, a month later, still hadn’t updated my sidebar to reflect my newfound adult-status. Okay so it really doesn’t mean anything, apart from maybe the fact that I might sort of be perhaps closer to coming to terms with how I’m now 21.
Just sent my first roll of film to be processed. I hope at least SOME of the 36 exposures turn out, especially considering how I didn’t really manage to wind the film properly when the roll was done.
Okay everyone, cross your fingers. (And for the flat too.)
I’m quite delighted at the recent turn of events. :)
me: I’ve got a new obsession - I sent 2 old film cameras to be repaired and it’s so fun shooting film! I’d completely forgotten what it was like to wonder how the pictures will turn out.
jon: Your poor dSLR.
me: huh?
jon: You’re like.. cheating on her now.
me: No lah. I just bought her a new lens please of course I still love my 30D!
jon: Yeah, so like you buy your girlfriend an expensive present to placate her while you run off with the other woman. Real nice.
Reality bites.
