Date Night

Posted in Uncategorized |

The bunny and I headed out to Flutes At The Fort last night for a date - after this week she won’t be on leave anymore and the work’s just going to pile up all over again so we wanted to have a nice dinner before all of that collapsed on us.

It seems they’ve changed their menu again - or made some modifications, at least. For one, I don’t remember seeing the Tuna Tataki in their list of appetizers, the scallops seemed to be presented a little differently, and that Lemon Myrtle Cream Cheese Tart was missing! But we had a good time anyway - the food was great, the ambience was better than I remembered it, and the waitstaff were very well-mannered and attentive too.

I started off with the Open Ravioli of Poached Australian Lobster which, I have to say, was the highlight of my dinner. The freshness of the lobster and the combination of all the flavours - for once the avocado didn’t overpower the dish! - I was ooh-ing and ahh-ing throughout my starter. She had the Soup of the Day - Clam Chowder, which she said was just rich enough and a lovely blend of all those seafoody flavours.

The list of mains wasn’t as impressive as the starters - hence I opted for a less adventurous Roasted Australian Grain Fed Rack of Lamb, and my bunny settled for one of two vegetarian options: Tempura Zucchini Flowers. Our mains, while unoriginal, didn’t disappoint, although my lamb was definitely not medium-rare, but somewhere around medium to medium-well done instead.

Considering the appropriately sized portions of the starter and main course, I still had space for dessert, and bunny and I had a pot of tea each. (I’m normally pretty much full by this point, but insist on having dessert and end up a little bit too full.) Being quite aghast at how my crème brulêe was destroyed into one of those durian infused crème brulêe travesties, I opted for the Warm Coconut Cream Cheese Tart which was just the right size - any bigger and the richness would have smothered me. I don’t know about how well it went with the Lime Sorbet though, it just kind of gave me a shock everytime I put a bit into my mouth. But then again, that could have just been because I’d been expecting a green tea flavour. Blame the dim lighting.

While hailing a cab to get ourselves home, we spotted instead an empty trishaw, that also didn’t have neon lights nor blasting techno music. In we hopped, and that just about topped off one of the most perfect date nights I think have ever existed. Thank you for an exquisite time last night, baby. I love you.
